I am a native Arkansas who has returned here in retirement after a career in medicine (16 years in the Navy and the rest in private practice in Arkansas and Georgia). I began learning about ham radio recently to assist in disaster relief communications and know just enough to have obtained a general license. Haven’t studied this much in years. I’ve listened to some chatter on my Baofeng handheld and am currently setting up an Icom IC7100 for HF. Hope to make first contact within a few weeks.
Hello from Central Utah. My name is Gabriel and I am a newly licensed Technician and am currently studying for General. Got my first contact on a local repeater. I only currently have experience on 2 meter, looking into doing some 70cm and look forward to HF and the ragchews. I am currently using the Baofeng BF-F8HP with an ABBREE 18.8 inch antennae.

Howdy Mike! Welcome!
Hello this is Simon I got my technician ticket in 04/04/2023, and am studying for my general with ham radio prep, so I’m pretty new still and I joined WRL maybe 20 minutes ago hihi. I live in the state of missouri, one time when I was on the air someone had asked my QTH and I had said Missouri, and they said they were in the state of happiness, just found that funny hihi.
Anyways hello everybody hope you are all enjoying ham radio, I know I am, 73’s all around!
Got my Technician license last year but havent used it…from central Oh.
Have a YAESU FT-70D. I have contact with a repeater where hams talk (wires) should i start there?
If you use the 10 meter band and have a good antenna then you can work the world without a repeater that’s what I do ![]()
@KF0MBF What CW speed have you reached so far?
I’m going to be completely honest, I’m not good with CW, I was learning it and know some words in it, but not enough for a QSO
what about you? What’s your speed?
Once upon a time I was just a tad short of 10wpm. Can’t do a lick these days after being away from it for 30+ years. I asked because 15m and 40m give you a bit more frequency range you can work as a Technician.
Depending on where you live and population, you may or may not need a repeater. I myself live to far away from society and everything, even the local repeaters are to far from me, I can’t even use an HT if I was sitting outside in a lawn chair.
I really need to learn and get some books for CW.
Greetings from Houston, TX
I am a newbie who just started the path to a basic technician license.
Stay tuned.
Best,
Beatrix
Thanks for having me. I’ve been an inactive novice forever and this feels like a good time to upgrade.
