I’m starting just with a handheld Baofeng UV-SRTP Dual Band. Anyone got a good suggestion for a decent base station? I want to get something set up in my apartment if I can, please drop me a line. Piece by piece.

Greetings to all! Got my Tech ticket July 30th of this year. Hamradioprep.com and HRCC channel on YouTube were 100% instrumental to get me here. Got a KENWOOD D75A just last week and am now programmed with local repeaters. Frustratingly quiet on local repeaters. Enjoying playing with APRS. Next roadblock is Dstar. Really looking forward to learning to work it and speaking with folks from all over. After that, HF! No HF rig yet $$$. Looking forward to that. 73! KJ5HLE
Greetings from Scheller, IL I’ve been a ham for 45 years and have been a General class ticket. I missed my advanced by 1 stinking question way back when I got my general at the Federal Building in Kansas City, MO and would have had to wait a month before taking it again but never got back to retake it then kids, school, work, and injuries/sickness all kept me from ever taking it again. I am studying for my Extra Class now but so old a lot of the satellite and computer or data modes stuff is so new to me plus my thinking isn’t as good as it used to be. I am blessed with a new ham KE9ATX I have helped by giving him advice on equipment and many things on Ham Radio plus have tried to give him some of my extra equipment to help him get started or swap or sell to get things he wants or needs. He surprised me with a gift card for the Ham Radio Prep Extra Class course now I have no choice but to try and learn all that is involved in Extra Class.
I have a 29+ year old Moslet tri-bander TA33M, Hy-Gain AV680 vertical a 160-meter 5KW full sized double bazooka inverted vee, Mor-Gain 80-10-meter dipole (looks kind of like a fan dipole but has jumpers between the different wires to tune each band. Used to be a popular antenna in the 70’s and 80’s.) I have a Cushcraft R-5 vertical, RigExpert AA-35 ZOOM antenna analyzer and my VHF/UHF antenna is a Tram 1480 dual band vertical, an old Cushcraft 15-element Yagi beam, and a 6-element homebrew beam. My Hf radio is a TS-590SG, Astron 50 Amp Switching supply, MC-90 mic, Heil BM-17 and a Heil Pro Set, West Mountain CLRspeech filter, HackRF One SDR, SDR PLay RSP1A, Palstar AT2KD antenna tuner, Vectronics watt meter, Ham 4 rotor, Ameritron ALS-1306 solid state 1.2KW 160-6 MeterAmplifier, VHF mobile Kenwood TS-281, Triband Mobile antenna, on a motorized tilt base mount, VHF/UHF base radio TYT TH-7800 2M, 220, and 70CM, Astron RS-20A Linear DC power supply, Workman mod-104 VHF-UzHF SWR Wattmeter. As they say “Hope when I die my wife sells my equipment for what it’s worth instead of what I told her it cost.” that’s my favorite ham radio quote. 73 from Scheller, Southern Illinois, USA from Bruce KA9CBS old call KA9GXT
Hello All!! My name is Showshana and I am in Oregon. I started studying about 4 years ago and life got busy so I had stopped. In the last month we got our GMRS license and starting building our own mobile repeater. Then a few weeks ago I decided that it was time to study and take my test. I pass the Technician last weekend and was only 2 away from passing my General (did not study for this one). I will continue to study some more for my General test I will take next month.
Currently we have a collection of the BaoFeng UV-5R, great starter handheld. Upgraded our handhelds to the Tidradio TD-H3. Highly recommend this one for a beginner. Both sets of handhelds have the upgraded antennas to the Nagoya NA-771. Our mobile radios for our vehicle are on order and looking forward to setting up our vehicles. Next it will be our base station at home and a good antenna.
Looking forward to the wealth of knowledge within this community to learn everything I can. Any input on antennas and radios for our base station would be greatly appreciated.
Hello. -… . Pat N8VW. I’ve been an extra since I was in high-school. I operate most of the popular modes and do a lot of contesting. I joined because I watched the W1DED interview with the founder and agreed with what he had to say and wanted to support it.
Hi from North Eastern North Carolina in the great county of Camden. My name is Joseph “Butch” Flythe. I just got my Technicians license and am studying for General. I’m using an iCom 7300 and a Buddipole deluxe kit with 18ft mast in a dipole configuration. Since my wife will not let me hang antennas off the house, the Buddipole is a great alternative. So far QSO’s in Patagonia, Lima, Buenos AIres, Minnesota, and Texas.

Thank you Jeff, and thanks for your support! ![]()
Hello - new subscriber here, on the basic subscriber level for now. I paid the $36 fee to QRZ to be able to export my log from there. I subscribed here because I’ve been lurking for a while and like the regular ongoing updates and feature additions/improvements. Most of the others seem stuck in the 1900’s and this one seems to represent the future! -de KO6BLI
Thank you so much for the support Bill @W6MKL !! ![]()
It’s not easy keeping a project like this going, and every bit of help really counts. But you have our guarantee we’ll keep working hard every single day to make this app better and better, and try to have some fun with it too.
We look forward to hearing more feedback from you - let us know what features you want to see!
I’ve only been licensed since Sept 2023, so I’m still a newbie. But one thing that has irked me about the amateur radio hobby is that so many things seem like they were designed in 1980. I’m glad to see (and support) efforts to bring it into the current century.
HI all My name is Nemury Valladares W4NEM, I am form Miami Florida and I am glad WRL is taking logging to the next level.
