I’m taking a look at the new Desktop App and looking forward to using it for the upcoming Summer Field Day. I got the CAT control talking with my Flex 6.5K without any problems. This will work just fine for SSB/CW
But I DON’T see any way of integrating the Desktop App with WSJT-X. Is this not implemented yet?
Correct, its not integrated yet. Just rig control. However with that said, you can technically still use the original “WRL Cat Control & Integrations” app to stream your WSJTX contacts while using the desktop app in the mean time until we’ve added the WSJTX UDP Streaming into the desktop app natively like we did with cat control.
I was trying to use the WRL desktop app and while it worked pretty well, for now the browser-based CAT control app works better for me.
This is the way I found to use WSJT-X with WRL:
To have the rig’s CAT control and WSJT-X running at the same time, I needed to install a COM port multiplexer. I used OmniRig (free, at DX Atlas: Amateur Radio software ), though there are other similar options.
It’s very easy — it runs in the background and you just need to tell it what rig you have and which COM port it uses. That’s it, it takes care of making the WRL CAT control app and the radio work together without conflicts.
Then in the WRL app (browser version), go to settings, and in the tabs at the bottom where you see WSJT-X, N1MM and N3FJP, select WSJT-X, enter port 2237, choose the log name you want to use (one you’ve already created — it searches your existing logbook list), and hit Start Listening. No need to click “Connect Radio”. That’s all — every QSO you complete in WSJT-X goes automatically to your WRL log.
The first few times it might not work if the baud rate doesn’t match between OmniRig and the radio, or if there’s some connector setting in the rig blocking the connection. But if you’re comfortable with Claude, you can ask it to guide you step by step — it’s very straightforward.
whoo!! way cool, you don’t even have to have the web app or desktop app running! the CAT control program by itself gets things synced to the cloud log!!
