GMRS Log with map

Many of us are cross licensed between Ham and GMRS. Is there a way to log with map for GMRS the same way we do with Ham?

@KF8BGX Hey Good Morning Jeff,

I’m assuming your asking if you can log GMRS contacts and it show them on the map like will for Ham contacts? If so, I dont think so, no. The reason being is when you enter a callsign and it does the call sign lookup its pulling in lat/lon, gridsquare, etc information and using that data to plot the points on the map. Since we are only looking up Ham callsigns and able to return that data I dont think it would work properly for GMRS callsigns.

Brad @K4AZE, I have following question:
When I share locator infos with my CB contact or with my GMRS contact,
and I enter the locator infos in the “their grid” field, does the map then show positions?

@HB9EVT I don’t think it would. I’m fairly certain that the mapping is done based off of lat/lon vs grid square.

Hi Brad @K4AZE

So, if I understand you correctly, this is no longer a GMRS or CB issue, but a mapping problem, which also affects ham contacts:

Lat/lon is not always known:

  • Option 1: Contact as no QRZ.COM page. So you have no lat/lon information of him.

  • Option 2: The contact has the suffix /P and is therefore not at home. Therefore, the lat/lon data for their home QTH on QRZ.COM cannot be used.

In such a situation, it would be desirable when the grid field would be evaluated to calculate lat/lon for the map.

I often exchange the locators with my conversation partner and record it in the logbook in the Grid field.

WRL Team, please accept this as a feature request:

  1. If lat/lon is not available or correct (“/P”), please use the data in the grid field to calculate lat/lon that this contact is also displayed on the map.

  2. And (only) for DX contacts use the prefix when both lat/lon and grid are not available.

@HB9EVT I’ve added this as a feature request in our ticket system.
