Hello from W2DIY on Long Island, New York!

Hi! I’m Daniel W2DIY, a 20 year old new General class ham (No jokes here, I upgraded on April 1st) slowly learning everything I can about amateur radio! I am super interested in getting into POTA as an activator, but my first step is to save up some money to get my first HF radio and equipment! Aside from POTA, I am very curious about getting involved with ARES/RACES, and I would love to put time into learning CW!

I am super new to the hobby, and slowly getting over being mic shy, but I would love any insight possible that can help me out in any way! My email is always open if you would like to start a conversation or give me any advice!

I also recently just started up my own ham radio related blog, where I have been logging my journey in ham radio including all the things I have been learning, and things to hopefully help out other new hams!

Looking forward to meeting everyone and getting more involved with the community here!

@W2DIY Welcome Daniel!!!

Welcome the the wonderful world of ham radio! We will be releasing a series of CW content and working with some well known sites and groups that help users learn CW that we should be ready to release shortly. The way I was able to get of my ‘mic shyness’ was to start hunting POTA. Its usually a quick exchange; signal report, location, and a 73. The POTA site has an example exchange you can look at (see link below) but I would just spin the dial to a few frequencies where people are activating and give a listen for a bit until your hear how they are running their activation and then when your comfortable, key up the mic :wink:

That’s great you’ve started a blog to document your journey! Keep at it even if it gets frustrating! Let us know if you ever have any questions or need a hand with anything! Happy to help!

Hope to hear you on the air!

Cheers & 73

This is awesome to hear @K4AZE ! Cannot wait to start learning CW!

That’s something I’ve seen highly suggested! My next goal is to definitely save up some funds, and get an HF. Been looking at the Xiegu G90 as a starting rig to get me going!

Likewise! Thank you for all the advice and insight!
