POTA log practices

I see several ways to manage POTA logs. How is anyone managing them?

One way is to create a logbook POTA and import adi files from past logs and select a location. Another is to create a POTA style logbook (start a pota activation) where it creates a logbook “CALL @ US-0000”. Is this all I need or do I need to go into settings and select a saved location which requires me to create a location and then go back to select. Seems like extra steps where when creating a POTA activation it should also just add the new location if not already created to my locations list or select it based on the US-0000 park number.

So, either I import all into a single POTA logbook or keep each activation into a separate log book.

I am new to log management, usually just keep one master but I am trying to better manage my activations and operating locations. Havent even jumped into LOTW locations, why I stopped using it away from home QTH.

@K4TH Hey Thomas

I dont want to speak for everyone but I think most people just keep separate logs for each activation (ie CALL @ US-1234, CALL @ US-4321, etc). All QSO’s can be managed via the QSO Manager via ‘Log Contacts’ → ‘QSO Manager’. As far as setting your location you can create a ‘saved location’ and then set that to be the default for any new logbooks created. If you are solely doing POTA activations that won’t be extremely helpful as you’ll be in different locations most times. However when creating your activation logbook you can set the location when setting up your logbook via the ‘custom location’ tab. I hope this somewhat helps.

I think that helps. Not sure that I will always use WRL for activation but will try it next time. I don’t do solely POTA but want a platform to best manage my logs in logical storage units. Especially if I want to record my specific infrastructure (antenna, radio, op conditions, etc.)

Completely makes sense! Hopefully with some of the new features and upgrades we’re about to launch we can win you over :wink:

Oh, I am excited. As a former .NET developer the current development technologies make almost anything possible.
