QSO mapping, ADIF location import, and ADIF Lat Lon format bug

I appreciate all the great work you all are doing in building a modern logger! So nice to not be stuck in the 1990’s by software that assumes everyone is always operating from what the FCC has as the mailing address on their license :). So many folks are operating portable now it’s great that WRL doesn’t blindly assume locations when writing log records.

Four issues I believe that need to be fixed please. At this point I am still uploading existing ADIF log files from previous activations. I take great pains to ensure all the MY_ location info is complete and accurate in my ADIF files.

First, when I import ADIF files that include MY_LAT and MY_LON information, my lat and lon appear to be ignored. The QSO map appears to be plotting the center of the MY_GRIDSQUARE. This plots different distinct nearby SOTA summit activations in some lowland between two summits, and it stacks activations of different nearby summits on top of one another, making them indistinguishable.

Second, when I export the ADIF file (exporting an all-qso backup as suggested the E38 live stream) the MY_LAT and MY_LON data was overwritten with the lat and lon of the center of the MY_GRIDQUARE from the ADIF file I imported.

Third, the MY_LAT and MY_LON, along with LAT and LON field, are exported in the incorrect format. They are exported in decimal degrees, which is incorrect according to the ADIF specification. Note that the ADIF specification requires “a sequence of 11 characters representing a latitude or longitude in XDDD MM.MMM format,….”

it should look something like this: N044 17.706

LoTW and QRZ are perfectly happy with the “N044 17.706” format. QRZ seems to ignore lat and lon NOT in the “N044 17.706” format. Must be very careful to pad and fill with leading and trailing zeros.

Four, when I hover over an activation (eg SOTA or POTA) location icon on my QSO map, the pop-up shows state, country, grid, and lat/lon of (I think) my default location, not the state, country, grid, and lat/lon of the activation. It should really show the location info for the activation, and extra credit if the pop-op shows the SOTA or POTA reference# and name. All this info is in the ADIF files I uploaded.

Thank you and 73,

@KA3ZPH Hey Tony!

Thanks for the feedback and the breakdown. I’ll pass this along to the team and create a ticket for this.

I’ll update this thread once we’ve had a chance to dig into this and push some fixes.

Thanks & 73

Thanks Brad! I’d be happy to provide some of my ADIF files if that would help.
