Yes this was just an export and mapping issue with this specific contest. All the correct fields and export functionality is working as expected now as long as you add your exchange grid in the field under the logging fields in your logbook.
I have also done a basic subscription because I think it is going to be really good going forward. Hopefully, more beta testers can find these issues before the general public gets it. I do realize that every bug won’t be caught however.
@W2DIY Greatly appreciate that! We are just starting to dip our toes into the contesting side and still have SEVERAL changes to the backend that have yet to be completed. More specifically a way for us to allow users to participate in contests and see active/arcuate scoring results and a way for us to easily add and modify contest exchange fields that will export correctly in the Cabrillo files. Long way to say we have lots coming
GREATLY appreciate the support! We try to do extensive testing on the major features, some of the contesting changes we’ve had to push out last minute that we were unable to test as thoroughly as we would have liked but again we are working on several contest changes that will be coming in the next few months that should help prevent some of the issues you’ve ran into with this latest contest. Sorry for the trouble but thank you for the support and bearing with us!
Nope that should be good to go. Most of the Cabrillo’s for some reason have that trailing 0, (me personally, im still not entirely sure what its for). I would submit your log and see if it gives you any issues but you should be fine now. Thanks again for hanging in there with me!
@W2DIY I just noticed something on another users log. Although the rules dont mention to NOT include a signal report, its kicking another users log back due to the formatting as its seeing (for example) +01 in the spot of the log when it should be the grid square. I hope this makes sense.
I’ve updated the other users log with the signal report (sent and received) removed and i’m having him try and upload his log to see if it accepts it. Yours may fail due to having the signal reports in there. If it does let me know and i’ll have the team remove the signal report (sent and received) from the cabrillo export for this specific contest.
Almost all contests require a signal report to be in the log so this completely threw me off. My deepest apologies for all the trouble!.
Just like you guessed, seems like it is also kicking my log back!
Completely understandable! No need to apologize! With this being my first contest, and my first time NOT having a normal FT8/FT4 exchange, I was also confused when I didn’t have anything to put for my signal exchange for each QSO.
Thinking ahead to the future, is there anything that can be implemented when there is a specific kind of Cabrillo format required for contests? Or is this one of those things that will have to be done case by case?
Its generally a case by case basis. It would REALLY be nice if each contest would provide a sample of the expected Cabrillo format in the rules lol lol Since in this specific contest rules it doesn’t mention anywhere that RST Sent/RCVD isn’t needed (and in 99% of other contests the signal report IS required) this completely threw me off.
Until we (WRL) finish the contest builder we are working on I’m having to setup these contests manually and then we have to custom tailor the Cabrillo exports based on what the rules say. Which is not the best way to do it which is why we are working on several changes but we still wanted to give users the ability to participate in contests until we get the changes ready to roll out.
We’ve got the cabrillo export changes pushed for this one. I uploaded a test log to confirm and its working. You should be able to export the log AGAIN now and it will not have the RST sent/rcvd in it and you can try and upload it.
Again, sorry for all the trouble on this one. Not a great experience for your first contest, i promise it will be easier next time.
Was this ever fixed? I just tried to upload my log from WRL and got what might be the same errors when I went to upload to the ARRL. Again, 300+ contacts and really really not looking forward to manually adjusting each entry.
@AC3DS Hey Drew, no we have not setup the cat control app to pass the exchange data from digital contests to the contest exchange fields. With that said, I can get the team to pull the gridsquare from each of your contacts and add it to the contest exchange field so you can export your Cabrillo.
Just make sure you’ve added your exchange to the ‘My Exchange’ field under the main logging fields.
I’ll reach back out after i’ve talked to the team.
I was hoping this was implemented by now. I am having my logs sent in through WSJT-X and the WRL CAT control listener and I am having the same issue. My Cabrillo file is missing the grid square exchange for almost all my contacts. Is there a way this can be fixed automatically on the back end?
No rush, I was able to export the Cabrillo from WSJT-X and drop the contacts into the export from WRL. The form driven Cabrillo builder in WRL is so nice!
@W2FCP@AC3DS All the contacts have been updated and the contest exchange data added. However one thing to note is that if there wasn’t a gridsquare added then we didn’t have the data to copy over to the exchange field.
The best thing to do is just do the Cabrillo export, open it in a regular text editor and check the QSO’s to make sure they all have data, if not, just do a callsign lookup on the callsign and grab the gridsquare, then edit your contact with that person and add the gridsquare and then re-export the cabrillo.
@K4AZE I just exported the contest log and there is no exchange or gridsquares for any of the 300+ contacts in the cabrillo file. If I go into edit a contact in WRL, I can see that the blue “Grid Square” box under Contest Exchange, is empty.
