@W7YBY You can you which ever template you would like (for general logging I personally prefer the ‘all fields template’, but any will do) and then you just click your callsign at the top of the quick settings bar in your logbook (see screenshots below) and then set the station callsign and operator callsign respectively and click the save button.
Look for W1AW/7 in the near future. I’ll be one of many using that call for about a week and it starts in a few days. The call will be used by many during the Yuma Hamfest this coming weekend.
One more question; since I’ll be operating as W1AW/7 will I lose my streak if I don’t log any separate contacts under my own call, or does the fact that I’m logging as myself but using the W1AW callsign still get picked up for streak purposes?
I hope you can understand what I’m asking.
My first shift is tomorrow afternoon at 0000 UTC on 40m. Then Wed morning 1800 UTC on 20, and Thursday afternoon at 2200 UTC on 20.
The Yuma Hamfest will take over for Friday and Saturday, and depending upon how my first few shifts go, and availability, I may sign up for a few more.
Since I’m only pushing 20 watts I’m not expecting any massive pileups.
Well, that was a colossal flop. Zero contacts was my reward for a solid hour of calling CQ. I guess 20W on 40m in less than optimum band conditions isn’t an ideal situation. I now also see the value in having a radio with a voice recorder. My throat is raw.
After 15 minutes I spotted myself (1st time doing that) through WRL and it showed up as W7YBY instead of W1AW/7. I did see W1AW/4 being spotted numerous times so I’m guessing by others not seeing the club call they didn’t pay me much attention.
What did I do wrong or what do I need to do differently to get the W1AW/7 to show up instead? I’ll be back on tomorrow at 1800 UTC on 20m so I’m hopeful for a more productive hour.
Wasn’t me, I’m an old school SSB guy only. I do own a digirig so at some point I might venture onto the Dark Side.
The way the /7 (or for any W1AW / station) works is that everyone signs up on a scheduler for a one hour shift, and you can do multiple shifts as long as no one else has already signed up for it. And you can do multiple bands and modes within the same hour, so at 0000 UTC you can have operators on 10 12 15 17 20 40 60 80 160 and more, and you can have multiple operators on each of those bands as long as they are all in different modes; SSB, CW, FT8, etc.
So bottom line, as long as you don’t have multiple SSB ops on 20m or multiple FT8 operators on 15m and so on, you’re good to go. The problem is trying to get enough activators to fill all the open slots.
Friday and Saturday of this week will be reserved for ops at the Yuma Hamfest.
Today’s 20m effort at calling CQ was another flop. After 15 minutes I began hunting POTA stations and there were some surprised Activators when I called. One newbie didn’t understand the concept of the W1AW / 7 and me having a separate call, so fortunately we were both 5 / 9 to each other and I could take a minute to explain it to him. I bought a 100w rig this afternoon but don’t know if I’ll have it set up in time to operate it during my shift tomorrow afternoon, but if not, I hope to be live on it after the Hamfest is over.
I was glad to see you getting some well-deserved props on the live stream Monday.
