Good afternoon,
Day three of my quest to become technician-certified. In today’s study, I came across the mention of band plans, which the region’s Volunteer Frequency Coordinator sets. The lesson also stated that the amateur radio operators in the area can choose the Volunteer Frequency Coordinators. I have a few questions regarding this. Who is the Volunteer Frequency Coordinator typically? Can it be anyone, or must they have a degree or some background justification to fill the volunteer position? Also, is there a voting system or mutual agreement of some kind, or what is the method by which amature operators participate in the election of the Volunteer Frequency Coordinator?
Today’s lesson also stated the authority by which station records may be requested. What do these look like? Are automatic logs kept on the radio, or would maps with pins, physical log books, or digital forms on a computer count? How do you keep your station records organized and readily available to authorized parties?
Bonus question: I notice the restrictions of 220 Watts / 1,500 Watts. How would you measure your peak envelope power output? And would the equipment used to push that much power be at a high price point?
Thank you again for your time and effort. I plan to ask daily questions, be an active member who posts engaging discussions, and enrich this informational and social community.
