Ability to Create a Custom Contest Logbook for Non-Supported Contest

Hi Brad @K4AZE

I have a question about this:
What should I do if I participate in a small, for WRL insignificant contest that is not included in your list of suggested contests?

@HB9EVT

We dont have a use case for that currently, as you know each contest has specific contest exchange fields that are required and those fields need to be exported in the Cabrillo. So for now, only contests that are on the contest page can be exported in a Cabrillo format properly. Now if you don’t plan on submitting your results then by all means just put the contest exchange data in the notes field or something and participate in the contest.

With all that said, if there are contests that aren’t on WRL please feel free to let me know and i’m happy to add them.

Thanks & 73

Hi Brad @K4AZE

Effort versus return: Your offer is very kind, but I can’t keep taking up your valuable time just because I (and rarely one other user) want to take part in a relatively unknown contest.

Required effort: WRL has clients from about 70 countries around the globe and I guess each country as in average three national contests. So we are talking round about 200 additional contests per year.

I hope the WRL Team find a better approach to solve this request.

Creating new topic for creating a custom contest logbook.

Here are my quick thoughts:

  1. We are continuing to add more contests, which is the most important thing. We will also introduce more contests filters so that as we add more contests, only the most relevant will appear.

  2. For contests that aren’t officially in WRL, you should be able to still use WRL, by:

  • Customize your logbook template with the exchange field (available today on web, but needs to be added to mobile)
  • Map the exchange field to an exported field (future feature)
  • Manually update your cabrillo export (already available via the Cabrillo editor UI)

So, I think that the only piece missing is ability to map a custom exchange field to the export.

What do you guys think?

That’s perfect. :+1:

Absolutely. That’s exactly how I would imagine it. :+1:

Not exactly. There is more to do:
So far WRL has different designs for the two exchange fields:

So far I can’t build the “Your Exchange” field in the template creator. So this has to be solved too.

With this addition, I completely agree with your suggestion. Thank you very much. :folded_hands:

BTW: I still would prefer the contest relevant fields in the order how you use it in a contest:

Now, it is exactly in the order how I would reply your call:

November Zero Whiskey Romeo Lima, your report is five nine two eight. QSL?
