Canadian RAC contest log

While doing the contest this weekend I noticed that I had to manually go back in and enter their Province even though I had entered their exchange of AB, BC, ON, etc.

For “My Exchange” I entered 001 for my first entry and then each additional entry I updated it to 002, 003, etc. Is WRL supposed to increment that for me automatically? If so, when would I see it increment? After I hit the Log Contact button?

I also had to do the incrementing manually. I know that it can be done in WRL, as it was set up for another contest. But it wasn’t working in this one.

Thanks both for the comments here :folded_hands:t2:

@W7YBY this must be a big, we will look into this right away.

As far as the incremental serial number, we should have a permanent solution for this for contests very soon! We have a way to set this in admin options, but it needs a little enhancement.

@W7YBY Ok there are a couple of things here. First, the ‘my exchange’ field under the ‘log contact’ button. doesn’t need to be updated after each qso. you should just enter it once and it will persist. The current issue is that again with this specific contest (like the 10 meter contest last weekend) there is a different exchange based on where the participant is located. Some users needed to enter a serial number and other users didn’t. Since we dont have the functionality currently to show the participant exchange fields based on where they are located, we just put a generic ‘exchange’ field.

This isn’t an issue with most contests as the exchange is the same for users no matter where the user is located, however with that said over the next few months we are building out several updates and new features for the contesting side of WRL that will fix these issues.

I’ve updated your cabrillo and here is a link to download the correct log - https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zQoBlNjbThp06TzhQ_mIgYqMWT72uJVQ/view?usp=sharing

@KQ4Y See my comment above.

I was waiting for this to be posted.. I think that for the “My exchange” you would need 2 options. 1 option for serial number option 2 would be state or in this case province. because of the no serial number I did not use the log here. which sucked because we spent a bunch of time getting the Cat control to work on my system.. You guys were super helpful with that.. but in the end I didnt use the site due to the lack of serial number.. when you add that feature. I would make sure there is a box that keeps track of what number you should be giving your NEXT exchange..

@KN6TPT We already have a sequential serial number field that is used for contests that have a single exchange for all participants. The issue is that in this contest the exchange was different based on location (ie one person may need to enter a serial number and another user may just need to enter their state or providence abbreviation). Since we dont have the functionality added into the contest side yet to show the correct field based on location we just added a generic field. Over the next few months we will be continuing to build out the contesting side of WRL more and make it more feature rich.

Hi Brad,

To clarify… once I put in the initial 001 in My Exchange, you’re saying that’s all I should have needed to do as WRL would then increment that for each of the following contacts? If so, does the increment happen when I click on “Log Contact”, because as I logged each contact I verified the My Exchange number and it was always the same number as the prior contact.

I appreciate you taking the time to update my Cabrillo log but I manually increased the serial number for each of my contacts as I logged them and the RAC system accepted the log as valid when I first submitted it.

@W7YBY No, The “My Exchange” is typically a static field meant to hold your standard exchange. When there is the same “serial number” exchange for all participants, there will be a serial number exchange field for you to enter their exchange and then there will also be a sequential serial number that is your exchange that will auto increment each time you make a qso. Again, since in this contest one participant had to enter a serial number and another had to enter their state or country code/abbreviation based on where they were in the world we just added a generic exchange field.

If you’ll enroll in the “North American SSB Sprint” contest and then open the logbook for it, you’ll see there is a ‘Serial #’ (which is THEIR serial number), Serial # Sent (which is YOUR serial number, this will auto increment), Name & Location.

Here is a copy of your RAC logbook. All you had to do was export it as a Cabrillo and edit it in a text editor and change the 008 (or 001, whatever was showing for each of your exchanges) to 001, 002, 003, 004, etc.

I hope this helps.

Thanks & 73
