New to contesting and unsure about logbook fields

Hi there,

I’m preparing to use the app for the NA SSB Sprint, and I want to make sure I understand how the exchange fields work.

  1. In the logging panel, are the blue fields for Name, Location, and Serial Number meant to be filled with the other operator’s information (the station I’m working), rather than my own?

  2. In the “My Exchange” block at the bottom, I entered “1 [Name] [State]” properly for where I am.
How does the app determine my exchange and make sure it’s accurate?
Does the contest module assign the serial number automatically?

Just want to be sure I’m entering things correctly during the Sprint.

Thanks!

Hi Julian, great questions. Happy to help here!

  1. Yes, in the logging field, it will ALWAYS be the information about the other station!

Here is an excerpt from the rules:
Exchange: To have a valid exchange, you must send all of the following information: The other station’s call sign, your call sign, your sequential serial number (start with 1, give next station 2, next is 3, etc.), your name and your location (US State, Canadian Province/Territory or Country. Note: DC is separate from MD.)
For example:
— K4XS KA9FOX 154 Scott Wisconsin (note this indicates this is KA9FOX’s 154th contact)
— KA9FOX 122 Bill Florida K4XS (note this indicates this is K4XS’s 122nd contact)

  1. For My Exchange information - it will be your name “Julian” and your state!

For the serial number, I believe we will update it automatically, but I need to check. If not, you can use the Log number as your serial number from here:

@N0WRL @N5EGG

For some reason there was the the ‘Serial # Sent” field that was missing that is YOUR serial number that you will be sending. I’ve added it back and its now showing and working as expected

Just make sure to fill out the ‘My exchange’ information under ‘mode/Log contact ‘ as that information will be used during the Cabrillo export.

Let us know if you have any other questions.

Thanks & 73
