Hello, I have downloaded the new update 1.06 for CAT control and I still cannot connect when using my Maestro. I try using port 5001 which is the port I use when I am using my Mac, but it does not connect to the Maestro. I also used a different port for external to internal setup and that still does not work. I am at a loss at the moment.
Hello James, thank you for the reply and you are welcome. I see a very bright future with this logging software and really want to be a part of the movement.
I look forward to any suggestions to the issue that I am having. I am comfortable with computers and networking, but may need a little guidance depending what needs to be done. By far not a rookie, but for sure not an expert.
Hey, I just debugged problems with CAT control on macOS on my system.
Are you using an ad blocker on your web browser? It isn’t documented, but apparently the CAT control app works through the web app, and uBlock Origin was apparently getting in the way of the functionality - I put an exception for app.worldradioleague.com and then everything started working correctly.
My apologies, I was traveling over the weekend and I had no computer with me. Download the Cat control. Open it up and select Flex Radio 6xxx. Make sure you go into CAT control and have a port like 50000 or 5002 whatever you want to use. and then make sure you put that in the SmartSDR CAT port box on the WRL CAT control panel. I was able to test this several times and it worked. Just make sure you creat that port in SmartSDR CAT for it to pick it up.
If it’s not showing up on the log itself as a frequency, move frequencies on the radio and then come back to the logger and it should show up. I am happy to remote in and help as well if need be. I am good on QRZ or here. I again apologize for my delay traveling over the weekend.
Thank you Marvin for the reply. This is exactly what I did to get Smart SDR to work with CAT control and it works perfect. My issue is the Maestro C does not work with CAT control. I have set the ports within the Maestro and WRL will not connect to my radio. I even tried using the Smart SDR port and it does not connect. Is there something with setting up the Maestro I am missing?
I am at work, so not near my radio and can test after work.
I think I’ve figured something out. Marvin mentioned setting up CAT control for the flex to match WRL CAT control. On Windows, there’s a separate program that’s part of Smart SDR called CAT control, and I believe it can work without using Smart SDR, just like when you use a Maestro. But on Mac, it’s part of Smart SDR and only active when you’re using Smart SDR, not when you’re using a Maestro. I’m guessing that Windows Smart SDR doesn’t need to be active to use the Smart SDR CAT control, since it’s a separate program, right? I am thinking this is why I cannot connect to WRL while using the Maestro.
Hopefully that made sense lol. I have never used the windows version of Smart SDR.
I do have one windows computer that only runs my WiresX node, so it’s on 24/7. I will try installing windows version of CAT control for Flex to see if it will work that way. Not sure exactly when I will do this, but I will update when I do.
Sounds like you may have resolve the issue, but yes you will have to have CAT control on Windows running when using the Maestro for this to work. Similar to when you have WSTJ-X running on Windows using the Maestro. I am pretty sure you will have to have CAT control for SmartSDR Windows running as well for this to work. I do not have a Maestro I can test this on for you. I did work for Flex for a while so I can help you quite a bit in troubleshooting this though if you are still having issues.
Not an exact fix, but I did connect using my windows computer. I am able to connect to my flex using the Maestro C and the logging app is able to track my frequency. The only thing that I have not gotten to work is while in the spotting area I cannot double click the frequency and have my Maestro follow.
I am half way there for windows, but still cannot connect my Mac (preferred computer) to CAT control when using the Maestro C.
Using a Mac with my Maestro C I tried using Chrome instead of Safari and CAT control still will not connect to the radio using the Maestro. I even tried leaving the SmartSDR CAT control active on my windows computer on the same network and no connection. I even tried turning the firewall off on the Mac and still will not connect.
I assume once a native on the computer app is created this issue could be a non-issue??
Let me think about this some more. I am trying to understand your exacy setup and how its connected. Let me look at the manual for SmartSDR for Mac if we can use that as a stand alone cat when connected to the Maestro. I have not tried it using a Mac I know it works with SmartSDR for Windows.
If I use the SmartSDR CAT control and WRL CAT control on the windows computer I can use the Maestro while controlling the logging app with a Mac. With this setup I can use my Mac and the logger tracks my frequency, but I still cannot double click a spot and the Maestro change to that frequency. This is a temporary work around.
The setup consists of Flex 6400, Maestro C, windows computer running windows 11, and an iMac M3 all hard wired for internet.
I know there is a plan for a native program for WRL coming, so I may just use it this way until that program goes live. I’ll keep trying things in the meantime time though. If you think of something to try let me know.
Well after sending my last message I reconnected to my windows computer and now I can double click the spots and the Maestro follows. I assume if would have disconnected and reconnected earlier it would have worked as well.
I still cannot connect to my radio with my Mac without using SmartSDR by Marcus. I also looked in the manual for Marcus’s SmartSDR and it said nothing about using CAT control outside the SmartSDR app.
