Could you please add / implement the Yaesu FTX-1 in the CAT Control software? I know its still in beta and hopefully in active development (:D), but I thought I’d mention my request here, so you guys (and girls?) know that at least somebody is waiting/wishing for it. ![]()
@DA6KTB - I was able to get this working using Yaesu FT-991, Com port that is the enhanced (not standard or serial) and Baud Rate of 38400. Best of luck to you on getting it working.
@AF8AF Perfect. Thanks!
With your FTX-1 , are you able to click on a spot and have the radio automatically tune to the freq? I can connect with Mac and windows and freqs will read from radio to cat control, but clicking on a spot does not tune the radio.
The 991A profile will allow software(s) to read from the radio, ie display the frequency and mode that your rig is currently tuned to, but not the other way, so you cant control the radio from the PC, at least not reliably. Hamlib have just released full FTX-1 control so others will probably follow suite. Question is, will that be before or after Yaesu ship the firmware we were told was coming last year first… probably changing everything again!
@MW0KJN Yes your are probably right and then hamlib will have to update their config for the FTx1. We’ve including the new hamlib update with this radio config in our latest cat control update (among MANY other cat control updates) that should be released later today or tomorrow.
Thanks for clarifying that. Glad it’s not me.
Excellent. I downloaded the latest hamlib update and the FTX-1 is now listed and works fine both ways when using WSJT-X so, good things are on the horizon!
Just downloaded latest update, 1.1.1 Confirmed on Intel Mac running Tahoe 26.2 and also on Windows 11 Home vs 24H2, Cat control now controls the FTX-1 when clicking on spots. Super awesome update for the FTX-1 user. I did notice the Smeter doesn’t function, it stays pegged at S9+151 on both machines. Haven’t dug around much past the spots control.
Will update mine now and test it.
Out of interest - what version of FTX-1 firmware are you using and are you using the Optima?
@KO6CRU hamlib just added an ‘alpha’ support for the ftx1 so some things may not be 100% working as expected. One thing to note is the smeter is never going to be 100% accurate (even if it wasn’t being pegged at s9+) as there isn’t really any way to pull accurate smeter data via cat control for most radios.
So far so good.
Selecting a spot also switches the radio frequency so it appears 2 way comms is now working. Running the latest FTX-1 firmware here.
Note - my S meter on the app is also pegged, where my S meter on the radio is S1, its not an issue for me as I don’t use it. Maybe if the app isnt confident on the S meter data it should not display it.
Have been using it with my FTX-1F all afternoon & its working great, thanks for implementing it.
My FTX-1 is on v1.08, opt is vs 1.12. I have the optima.
OK, not sure if it makes any difference, im currently on :
Main : V01-10
Opt : V01-13
Currently, other than the signal meter on the cat app being wrong, all is well.
Cheers
Kev
Looks like I’m behind on the ftx firmware. Will be sorting that out now. Thank you!
Im hoping they release another one soon which will enable Wires-X mode and fix the issues with hangups…. this version seems 95% good though.
Agreed. Just picked mine up at HRO on Saturday. Caught a minor software glitch that’s duplicatable with the PMG function (hangs the radio and needs reboot). All other functions going strong. Have only run with Optima and not QRP yet. In my shack and it works great monitoring local repeaters and hunting HF. Looking forward to WIRES-X implementation. Wasn’t deal killer, but it’s not fun dropping that kind of $$$ with a feature that is still not there. Looks like I might be glad I bought it this weekend as reports are showing price going up (What’s Yaesu thinking?). GigaParts already showing a $2000+ price. Yikes.
