Question on the Field Day Log

I plan to run the field day as an individual from home. I would like to merge the contacts from the field day to the main log when done.

However, I don’t see in the QSO Manager, in the available columns, the “Class” and the “Section” columns so I can merge the Field day log with my main log. Could these two fields be added to the available columns in the QSO Manager so it can be merged with the field day log without losing data?

Hi Mac I think I may be of some help for you.

Make sure that you have Saved your Field Day log in the correct format to a file on your local computer so you can Upload it to the ARRL site.

Open the logbook page from your WRL online Home page and where you see the listings of all of your saved logbooks look at the far-right side of the line that says ARRL field day and you will notice a straight line like something might be missing from that location. Hover your mouse pointer over that straight line and it will open a list of actions ( in your case Merge logbook with another)and you click on the action you want it to do, and it will open another window and then you click on the blue heart and a dropdown of all of your logs on your logging page will be in the list and you pick where you want it to go and it will move all of the contacts from your Field day log to whatever database you wish to save them to.

{NOW PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WHEN YOU DO THIS THE END RESULT WILL BE THAT YOUR}{FIELD DAY LOG WILL BE BLANK AND ALL ENTRIES WILL BE MOVED TO THE LOG OF YOUR}{CHOICE. ONCE YOU EXECUTE THIS ACTION YOU CAN NOT GO BACKWARDS.}

The other negative point from this is that the WRL uses your contesting logs for your analytics page and the leaderboard etc. and it will no longer be available for them to do that. Just for general purposes I would give it some time before you do this. (Maybe Mid to end of July)

Hopefully I answered your question correctly to what you were looking to do. Have a great weekend.

Hello Tom! Thank you for the detail response. I really appreciate it! I just have one more question: Since the “Main Log” does not have the “Class” and “Section” Fields, will the data of these two fields be lost when I merge the field day log into the the Main log?

That will be a Question for a higher power than I lol. Either James @N0WRL or Brad @K4AZE and since I just tagged them you should have a response soon

@KE8RRG Hey Mac,

I’ll have to talk to the team and confirm if after merging those contacts into a main logbook that the contest exchange data is still there. Im assuming it is, however in the QSO manager it wouldn’t show under ‘Class’ and ‘Section’ it would show under 'Contest Exchange 1" and “Contest Exchange 2”, ( and 3 and 4 etc) because each contest is going to have different exchanges based on the requirements of the contest, but currently those columns aren’t available in the qso manager so i’ll have to have the team simply add them as options to be added/shown.

I’ll reach back out after i’ve talked to the team.

Thanks & 73

@KE8RRG @KB2TDH @W7YBY So the contest data (ie contest exchange 1, contest exchange 2, etc) will still be in the QSO data even if you move the QSO’s out of the contest logbook however you wont be shown in the leaderboard and if you move the QSO’s out of your contest logbook before exporting your Cabrillo you wont be able to export it again.

We would encourage users to keep their contest logs in their contest logbook, because moving them out of the contest log will have some negative effects:

  • Exporting the data to the contest organizers will break (creating contest-specific cabrillo or ADIF, etc)
  • Removing them from the contest leaderboard, and making the contest analytics inaccurate

Now with that said, after the contest is over if you have exported your Cabrillo and submitted it to the contest, if you dont care about the above you could move those QSO’s into another logbook. We will be adding the 'Contest Exchange 1", “Contest Exchange 2”, etc fields to the ‘Columns’ dropdown in QSO manager as well

Thanks & 73

Thank you for Clearing that up for us Brad. I hadn’t looked at the end result yet but I had merged 4 contesting logs into my main Database log. I knew the contesting logs were cleared out and I deleted those but never had checked the main log to see what was there.

73 & Thank you
