Agree about joining ARRL. I’ve been a member since 1968, and the league has been there since 1914!

Hello. Î would like to know about the basic functioning of WRL, is It a Social Media platform or just a Radio with Software Interface?

Neither.

It is primarily a software logging program that allows you to keep track of your radio contacts.

There is a Community Chat aspect of it which is what you are in right now, but that is separate from the logging program itself.

There is also a CAT aspect that allows you to control your radio from the software too, if that’s what you meant in the second part of your question.

Just recently got back into Ham radio after too long of a hiatus and stumbled upon WRL. I’m glad that I found you you guys! Between WRL and Ham Radio Prep, it’s been a great ‘coming back’ experience! :tada:

Hi all, I am in Montezuma, GA and need someone close who would be willing to be an Elmer. I have had my tech license since July of last year but not sure what to do in several areas. I started just wanting 2m and wanted to participate with the Skywarn system here in Georgia. Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. I have only been here for about three years and don’t know anyone.

HI David,

There are three clubs relatively close to you…

Perry Hospital ARC

Central Georgia ARC

Middle Georgia Radio Assn

I would start with these to find yourself a local mentor.

Thank you! Perry is most likely going to be the closest one for me. How do I find contact info for them?

Hello all. New to all this. I am studying to take my exam now. I am almost there I think. I am an emergency manager at a University in Southern California. I want to use this as a redundant emergency communication for our institution but also interested in the personal fun side as well. Looking forward to jumping in. I already have a pair of Baofeng AR-5RM ready to go.

Welcome. I assume you’re studying for your Tech. I would suggest and recommend that you study and test for both the Tech (and when passed) the General as well.

You’ll find that the content for the General is not that much harder than the Tech and you’ll have access to a lot more of the spectrum that way. I would guess that about 50% of the people testing through our club take and pass both tests each month.

The process is that you’ll test for the Tech, it will be graded, and when it’s verified that you passed it they will ask if you want to test for the General.
